FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED AND IS THERE AN INDOOR ARENA?

Johnson Equine offers lessons in Fort Collins, Colorado.

*Please contact me to schedule an appointment*

Yes! There is an indoor and an outdoor arena, we use the outdoor arena 10 months of the year.

DO I NEED TO BE AT A CERTAIN ATHLETIC LEVEL TO TRAIN WITH JOHNSON EQUINE?

Yes! This is a sport just like any other and reasonable accommodations may be made for students who have had surgeries or limited use of certain limbs (I have a plate in my arm so I understand that arm has some restrictions). For riding lessons, there is a moderate to high level of fitness required to lift the saddle, climb the mounting block, use your body to stay astride, and dismount easily. Groom & Learn sessions involve walking and lifting as little as 3 lbs to brush the horse.  Riders will be evaluated prior to lessons to ensure the best experience.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Safety comes first in my program so a riding helmet is required to protect the cranium and brain in the event of a slip or fall.

*Only purchase a NEW helmet.*

Used helmets have an unknown drop and fall history, I can refer you to local stores that sell helmets.

Clothing will depend on if you are riding English or western, no skin is to be showing on the leg. Cowboy boots or paddock boots with slick sole are required. Please reach out to me for a full list of attire recommendations.

WHAT DO I BRING?

Water for hydration. In colder temperatures, hot drinks help fight the chill.

A smile! My horses love their jobs and enjoy being the center of attention.

Your keys in from your locked car. Better to be safe than not.

Snacks are always welcome to fight low blood sugar.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE LESSON?

All lessons will include catching, grooming, and leading the horse, these are basic skills every equestrian needs to be safe.

Riding lessons include tacking and untacking the horse. Proper gear and application ensure safe, quality experiences.

Sometimes we will have to share the arena with others, this is part of the equestrian experience and can be fun learning together.
